SUPERIORS / GOING
TO STATES
CRITICS' CHOICE
/ SUPERIOR
Lauren Bates
('09) & Rosie DeAngelo ('09)
Pantomime,
"Acrophobia"
Fluid, balanced
motion, good timing, strong facial expressions and a well-developed
storyline earned Lauren and Rosie the Critics' Choice award in
Pantomime. They are also the only Pantomime act in two years to
earn a "Superior" in District 14.
CRITICS' CHOICE/
DISTRICT
REPRESENTATIVE SUPERIOR
Lauren Vanhelden
('09)
Playwriting,
"Paper Butterfly"
Lauren's timely
social piece had clearly defined characters and was described as
"thorough, original and surprisingly informed while existing in its own
world." Lauren's play advances as a "District Representative"
meaning it does not count against our limited Performance or Tech IE
slot total.
CRITICS' CHOICE/
DISTRICT
REPRESENTATIVE SUPERIOR
Mark Vicciardo
('09)
Playwriting,
"This Ring"
Mark's authentic
dialogue and believable story points made this bittersweet romance win
over the judges' hearts. Mark's play advances as a "District
Representative" meaning it does not count against our limited
Performance or Tech IE slot total.
SUPERIOR
Cara Dozier
('09) & Chanel Letourneau ('10)
Duet Acting,
"The Next Mrs. Jacob Anderson"
This realistic
drama earned "straight superiors" from each of the three judges who
found strong character development, and declared it "a joy to watch."
Garry Cohen
('11) & Kasey Tanner ('11)
Duet Acting,
"Beyond Therapy"
This absurdly
overdramatic comedy earned "straight superiors" from each of the three
judges, who loved Kasey and Garry's timing, energy, and teamwork.
Lindsay Hail
('10)
Monologues, "The
American Dream" & "Ashes to Ashes"
Lindsay earned
"straight superiors" from each of the three judges with her wildly
contrasting monologues. They loved her character choices,
believability, and focus.
Lauren Bates
('09)
Publicity
Design, "The Crucible"
Lauren's
attention to detail, concept, and organizational skills and strong
judges' praise earned her another shot at Publicity Design in tech
theater competition at States this year.
Bradley Morris
('09) & Karly Muzik ('09)
Duet Acting,
"Ferris Wheel"
Bradley and
Karly were both very close to earning straight Superiors from the
judges, and every one of their criteria were marked on the "Strong" side
of their scoring sheets. The judges fell in love with Karly and
Bradley's on-stage chemistry and "great character, staging and blocking
from the start to the end."
EXCELLENT / GOING
TO STATES
Note : I am allowed to
pick one, and only one,
"Excellent" Tech event
to advance to States.
ADVANCING TO
STATES / EXCELLENT
Lauren Vanhelden
('09)
Costume
Construction, "The Crucible"
The judges had
only nice things to say about Lauren's costume concept, design, research
and presentation, while mentioning some easily changed seaming and an
attention to durability. Our own Elizabeth Proctor will get
another shot at building her costume at States this April.

SUPERIORS
We are only
allowed to send 5 Superiors in Performance, 3 in Tech, as well as any
declared District Representatives. These events earned the highest
possible overall score of "Superior" but were not chosen to advance to
States. To those of you who are not advancing, I am very,
very sorry. You are to be congratulated on your great work.
PS - I am very
frustrated that I can not send more Superiors to States; truly
you've all earned a shot at it.
